1969 Fiat 500 "My Car" This is an extremely rare example of a special, limited edition 1969 Fiat 500 "My Car" model built by the Piedmontese coachbuilder, Francis Lombardi. The car is in excellent condition after being fully restored and is regularly driven.
This deluxe edition has unique equipment, with a different dashboard - including a round instrument panel, wooden racing steering wheel, wooden gear knob. leather seats and generally a much more luxurious interior. Externally it has Lombardi’s distinctive aluminium front grille, chrome bumpers and side panels, unique ‘signature’ badges, extra chrome parts and a more sporty looking roof - with aero-ridges and small spoiler.
The most externally prominent feature is, of course, its solid roof. It is uniquely the only Fiat 500 model to have this and is a signal to his sporting influence, having been built at a separate production facility alongside the legendary Abarth sports version.
Fiat produced the 500 between 1957 and 1975 and this particular limited "My Car" edition was produced between 1968 - 1971. Only a few thousand were ever produced and it is reported that only a few hundred remain on the road today: this one as an exceptional example.
Place also carefully note that this is a genuine ‘My Car’ edition, unlike some others seen advertised elsewhere.
It has a service every year from a specialist Fiat 500 workshop, R. PROIETTI LIMITED, in north London. It will come with a fresh MOT - the last showed zero advisories. The car underwent restoration in 2008 at which time the colour was changed from yellow to a more attractive Fiat blue. The engine was also uprated to a 596cc Fiat 126 to provide more power; this means that it can far more easily keep up with the traffic on today’s roads and especially with your friends in the back.
The clutch has been recently replaced (~500 miles ago). The gearbox also being reconditioned at this time. The engine has just been overhauled with a new exhaust, new oil filter, new seals and gaskets, new coil and new spark plugs.
Lombardi was a fighter pilot and aero engineer who set up shop as a coachbuilder immediately after World War 2. He went on to design some of the most collectable and iconic cars of his time, so well respected that he was commissioned by the Vatican for the first dedicated Popemobile.
2018 marked 50 years since they launched the "Francis Lombardi My Car" edition.
The car is based in Oxfordshire, a few miles from junction 14 on the M4. Viewings can be made available at any time.
Fantastic fun and much loved. You simply won't find another example like this. Open to offers
