1974 Hillman Hunter in metallic aqua blue. (more pics later)
This car was owned by the same family from new until 2 months ago. The original owner .. a lady farmer.. owned the car until 1999, she died and her Son took the car on and used it as a second car for the next 10 years. I was told that the car never went further than 20 miles from it's Essex home. The Son then wanted something a little more comfortable and tried to part exchange it at a Land Rover dealers.. they said "no" but one of the sales men saw the original registration number and made an offer.. it was accepted and he became the 3rd owner... but only for the time it took to exchange the registration number.. i then bought the car.
THE GOOD... Since i have had the car ..(just over a month) i have replaced the head gasket, had the radiator re-cored, replaced the rusty front bumper for a brand new genuine item, replaced the front windscreen rubber and chrome finishing strip, Given the car a service, repaired the saggy drivers seat and a number of other small jobs. Mechanical the car is very good and has had a lot of new items fitted.. the brake and clutch master cylinders look almost new.. as does the alternator. The brakes are excellent and all of the electrics work as they should.
THE NOT SO GOOD... The car is reasonably sound but the paint needs looking at below the window line.. the roof, bonnet and boot are good but the doors and front wings are in need of a re-spray. There is a small amount of welding needed at the rear.. less than a days work for an slow welder.. a mornings work for a professional. The drivers seat has a small rip.. not too bad and nothing that can't be repaired.
This would be an ideal starter classic, parts are very easy to find.. and very cheap (Speedy Spares has almost everything.. genuine new old stock.. on the shelf). Drive it home as it's still road legal for another 2 months.
