Description

All original, superb, unrestored Hillman Super Minx series 2 1964, last model with the curved rear screen. Genuine mileage of 26, 000 miles from new and only 3 former keepers.
If you like these cars I doubt you will be able to find a more original one, I have never seen another. It retains it's original paint and has been dry stored in a heated garage most of it's life. It has an original dateless registration which is non-transferable and the original buff log book comes with the car.
The car was bought new in Bristol, original owner had another car and so didn't use the Super Minx much and basically kept it like you would a classic car, mainly in the garage and used occasionally in good weather. In 1974 it was laid up until 1991 when it was sold to a wealthy car collector in the south of Scotland, who kept it in his collection and rarely drove it. He then sold it in 2012 to the previous owner, a Rootes enthusiast who owned it for 5 years before selling to us.
This owner did the re-comissioning work the car required at the time, as follows; 1600cc engine is original of course but the carburettor was refurbished as was the starter, dynamo, hoses/ coolant hoses replaced, solenoid, regulator box, fuel sender, coil and rear hub seals. Gearbox and differential oils replaced and car fully serviced. It was then owned and maintained, meticulously for the 5 years he owned it. Only the roof was re-painted a couple of years ago as the original paint had faded in parts beyond polishing. The car is Birch Grey with a Pippin red roof, exactly as it came from the Rootes factory, it has it's original number plates, the hubcaps have been replaced but otherwise all the chrome is original and in good condition. Wheels have been re-furbished a couple of years ago and new radial tyres fitted. Interior (Red) is mainly original, some carpets replaced due to fading, dash top un-cracked, headlining perfect as are seats and door cards, original Pye valve radio still works, floor beneath the carpets is like new. Underneath there is no evidence of any welding, the car was undersealed from new. When we purchased the car there was some light surface rust on suspension components but mainly they were the original factory black painted. I did some light restoration on the floors and suspension/ brakes and replaced the pads, which was all it needed, pretty good for a now 55 year old car.
Other than that, ownership is enjoyable, she is lovely to look at, drives very well and a beautiful thing to own, so ownership from now is mainly a 'care-taking job'. I would recommend anyone interested make sure they have a decent, dry garage to keep her in, she will need servicing and some maintenance at times, as all 'old cars' do but mainly if you look after her and use her in summer for shows etc, you will get loads of enjoyment and attention from other enthusiasts, wherever you go. If you are looking for something to tinker with/ fix up, this probably isn't for you, as it doesn't need anything, just to be well looked after for the next 50 years.
We are in no rush to sell and will be sorry to see the car go, as I doubt we will ever see another like this, but sadly storage has become and issue for us. If you think you can offer her the care she deserves please get in touch.
