History of this car
Lancia only made 800 Sport 1600s in 1971/ 2 and only about 50 tipo 818. 751 right hand drive cars like ours were imported into the UK. With different gearing to the HF, the model was the fastest production Fulvia, with a top speed of 190kmh, and was the only Fulvia equipped with electric windows.
Our example was delivered new in a gorgeous light pastel yellow, Ivorio Anita, the same colour it wears today. It entered the current ownership in 1980 at 35000 miles and today’s mileage of 81000 is the warranted genuine mileage from new, corroborated by a raft of previous MOT certificates.
With the exception of the fitment of very desirable Dellortro carburettors (the original Solexes come with the car), Cromodora alloys (again the original steels accompany the car) a repaint and a retrim in leather, this is a very original unmolested example which drives and presents accordingly well.
This Sport has been a treasured family car for many years and is now only available to make room for a Lambda purchase.
Bodywork
This rare and special Zagato coupe makes for an excellent first impression with straight panels and a fresh, well polished finish, a repaint to a good standard in the original colour.
Opening panels close with ease and shut lines are good for a Zagato bodied car.
The chassis looks solid and has protective undercoating throughout; the owner reports that the subframe mounts were redone in the 1980s by specialist repairers.
Brightwork is generally very good with some age related marks.
Mechanics
On test this Fulvia starts easily and drives in a well resolved manner with a quiet, powerful engine and smooth transmission. The engine has perfect oil pressure and was amongst the last engines rebuilt by the legendary Harry Manning.
Our car is shod with Dunlop radials all round and has recently had servicing attention including the replacement of carburettor manifold gaskets and an alternator repair. Only 6000 miles have been covered since a major service including adjusting valve clearances.
At 72000 miles the cylinder head had an overhaul with new head gasket and other works including wheel bearing replacement and the fitment of an overhauled radiator (by marque specialist Omicron).
The exhaust is a stainless steel replacement and overall this is a great running, fast example, sure to appeal to the enthusiast.
Interior
Another feature of the car is the unspoilt interior. The seats have been professionally retrimmed in leather but otherwise the interior is original including the correct rubber head restraints. The headlining is pristine with no sagging (rare on this model), carpets are good and the dashboard has no cracks, with nice fresh unfogged gauges.
Boot
Presents sharply with excellent carpeting, Cromodora spare, correct Battaini jack and a Fulvia toolkit.
The rear hatch motor functions without fault.
Summary
A connoisseur’s Lancia with the best provenance, on the button and event or show ready.
Supplied with substantial history folder, original keys, owner’s manual, workshop manual and a box of spares including an after market smaller diameter wood rim steering wheel, the original Solex carburettors and steel road wheels.
