Beskrivning

1930 Rolls Royce Phantom 2 Tourer.

Registration number: TL972

Chassis number: 99XJ

A particularly well sorted Phantom 2 that has had massive monies spent upon it by the previous deceased owner. The car comes with a plethora of bills over the several decades of ownership from both Hofmann's of Henley & latterly Priory Vintage Car Co where the engine was fully rebuilt under the expert eye of noted Marque speciailst Carl Ford. As a result the car is one of the sweetest running & most powerful Phantom's I have had the pleasure of driving.

The car started life as a thrupp & Maberly Sedanca & early on in its life, (Pre war Accoriding to papers with the car) was fitted with the current Wilkinson open touring body. The coachwork is well executed & pleasing to the eye. Paintwork is maroon with black wings in good order. To the interior is burgundy hide & matching burgundy carpets. The car has a good full length hood, a tonneau cover & a full set of side screens for inclement motoring. We did not bother to erect the hodd when photographing the car as it seemd churlish to do so on such a fine day. A photo with the car depicts it in all weather mode.

The massive & eye watering expense is listed in great deal on the invoices accompanying the car. Indeed it will be hard to find a better maintained & mechanically rebuilt example. The late owner a Mr Swain kept the car as part of his small collection & lavished money on all his Rolls Royce & other cars without regard to expense. The engine rebuild included New blocks, New Cylinder head, new pistons, reground crank shaft, new cam shaft & followers etc etc etc etc etc.

According to RREC Factory Records this car was originally an open touring car with coachwork by Thrupp & Maberley order no. R2706 dated 1st November 1929, delivered to a Mr. G. W. Henderson of Chesham Place, London W1. In March 1930. The comprehensive specification documentation from these records indicates regular servicing, maintenance & repairs carried out by the works until 1936; further information shows the replacement barrel-sided tourer body by Wilkinsons of Derby being fitted just prior to the outbreak of war.

The engine was rebuilt at 55, 671 miles & the odometer now reads 59, 492 miles so it is just about run in after the extensive rebuild. The mechanical bills along come to a staggering £85, 317 Pounds Sterling.

It is hard to find a Phantom 2 with better mechanical provenance then this.
