The John Cooper name has been synonymous with fast Minis since 1961, when the Formula One-winning constructor persuaded then-owner British Motor Corporation to maximise the small car’s go-kart-style handling with more power. Forty-seven years later, John Cooper Works is a fully owned subsidiary of new-Mini owner BMW, and run by John’s son, Mike.
In 2003 MINI gave John Cooper Works full approval to produce Tuning Kits for the MINI Cooper and Cooper S. The Tuning Kits could be purchase through John Cooper Works or MINI Main dealerships, with MINI Main dealerships installing the Tuning Kit so that the cars could keep their Manufactures Warranty. Only 1209 UK MINI Cooper S had the John Cooper Works Tuning Kit upgrade fitted during 2003-2006. This £3500 engine upgrade enhanced the cars performance from 170bhp & 0-62 in 7. 4 secs produced by the standard production Cooper S to 210bhp with 0-62 in just 6. 6 secs, but it’s not just the BHP & 0-62 times, the whole car is so well balanced & so responsive in every gear. It really is the ultimate enthusiasts car. The Tuning Kits were mainly fitted to the Standard Cooper S Hatchback.
The John Cooper Works Tuning Kit is a modern day equivalent & very reminiscent to the Wonderful Downton MINI & the Downton Engineering Tuning Kits from the 1960’s
