Description

PHJ 244E, formerly FPW 1 represents an exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire a completely unrestored 3000 MkIII BJ8 Phase II car with just 16, 000 miles from new. This Healey, previously part of the Arthur Carter collection of notable Healeys, perhaps the most famous collection of its type (including works racers and prototypes as well as showroom fresh examples like this, see Octane magazine article gallery end) and represents what must be one of the most original Healeys in the world, certainly the most original on the market today. It is believed Carter purchased the car directly from Donald Healey Motor Co as a car built with a special attention to detail in February 1967.

The all original body panels (with matching stamped numbers in all applicable areas, see gallery) are free from any filler or previous bodywork bodges due to the car very clearly having never been in an accident, raced or thrashed and wear what is believed to be mostly if not all original Colorado Red paint, still with a deep shine to it having only ever been dry stored away from sunlight. The originality of the car materialises in a level of fit otherwise unachievable by the common restorer without considerable amounts of body filler – but of course, this car is as factory. The doors click shut, the bonnet and boot shut softly and all points of interaction are as they should be.

Inside, the famous MkIII ‘Chrome’ piping that only original cars featured (unavailable today) is undamaged by the sun, not clouded, brittle and yellowed like on the few other examples which retain them. Incredibly, PHJ 244E has totally original carpet even which is cut in a totally different pattern and assembled very differently to any kit or restoration.

It is believed the engine has never been disassembled and is clearly the original number example on a factory stamped plate. It’s technical specification is exactly as it left the factory, save for a new exhaust, just with routine maintenance carried out sensitively by ourselves for the last 10 years.

This car represents the only real-world opportunity to acquire a BJ8 exactly as it left the factory (even the indicators make a different noise to reproduction units), with an exceptionally sweet drive, riding very well and handling in that excellent Healey adjustable fashion.

This car will be provided serviced and MOT’d with British Motor Heritage Certificate of authenticity, large history file, period tool kit, rare and correct BJ8 lead hammer, magazine articles of this car in the Arthur Carter collection and more.
