Original registration number was KUW745X This was changed to the current number by Mr Anthony Brian Waterworth around 1993.
Around 2012 the car was taken to Delgany Co Wicklow and registered there before returning in 2017.
There is a massive history file with the car including invoices, service records, registration docs, tax disks, mot's and details of all it’s previous owners. An absolute fortune has been spent maintaining the car throughout it’s life. This beautiful car has been loved by everyone that has owned it.
The car sailed through it’s MOT last week with no issues whatsoever.
Since owning the car I have had a local classic car specialist rebuild the back brakes as the handbrake was weak. He also adjusted the tappets and we replaced the HT leads with Magnecor units which sorted out an intermittent lumpy idle. I have not covered many miles but recently did a 400 mile trip and the car was absolutely faultless, quiet, comfortable and exactly as you would expect for a car that once cost as much as a house.
Before buying the car I did my research. Rust is the killer for these and if you have to get into major surgery it’s going to cost a fortune. All the usual rust traps are perfect on the car including bonnet hinge areas, sills, door bottoms, rear screen lower quarters etc’. The paint is very good, there are a couple of minor marks and a small nick in the OS rear chrome strip which is annoying but easily fixed. The drivers seat has one small patch of wear about a half inch square. Otherwise all is in good order for a car in this price bracket. Door shuts are clean, engine bay looks good and original with no rust in the bonnet or boot lid and inside the boot is original and clean. The chrome and external rubbers are all very good. Glass is perfect with no scratching of the door glass or windscreen chips. If I were being critical I would say the wheels could do with refinishing. Their original finish is now showing it’s age but the wheels are good with no kerb damage, also the front grille insert could do with a fresh coat of paint. All in all I think this is a very genuine car that has simply been maintained with work done as it was required and what has been done was obviously done properly. The perfect condition for a useable car, not a trailer queen.
Electric windows and factory sunroof work just like the day it left the factory, Central locking all works and one key opens all the locks. The car starts right up and settles to a nice idle with perfect oil pressure, even when hot, and there are no overheating issues. Drives and stops straight and on the road at motorway speeds the interior is quiet as it should be, like riding on a cloud. I would have no hesitation in driving this car across Europe today if I had to. The ultimate useable classic car that functions perfectly as a daily driver or a weekend treat. It’ll be MOT and tax exempt in a couple of years and classic insurance costs very little. This costs less to run than my wife's 2005 Mini Cooper. Add to that strong and steadily rising prices and a superb network of spares and specialists support and these brilliant old Merc’s just might be the ultimate useable classic cars. The Mercedes W/ C123 series are widely considered to be the pinnacle of engineering excellence in the automotive world.
A beautiful and genuine coupe that turns heads wherever I take it. The condition is superb, she’s clean and mechanically needs nothing. The engine oil is clean as is the radiator water, the engine is dry and quiet, the transmission works like new and the car drives as well as it looks. I really do not want to sell but also don’t want to leave it sitting idle. I am a motorcycle man at heart and whilst I love classic cars I just don’t need one. I have priced the car to sell, it’s got a full mot, had a service just a few hundred miles ago, brakes have been done and it just needs some use now. You could buy this from a specialist dealer and would be paying north of £15k.
The car is on the road and viewing is recommended. First genuine person to see this will buy it. Please don’t waste my time or insult me with silly offers or swaps unless you have a Harley shovelhead or panhead The car is ready to drive away, it’s paperwork is all in order and it could be yours for a very reasonable price!
