Here we have for sale an ex military 90 which has been prepared for use in cold climates - it may be interesting to research the military history to find out where it's been - the military number is still visible. So what is winterising and how would affect ownership? The air intake for the heater is covered to allow air to enter even with thick snow on the bonnet and wings. There are heated screens to front and rear also. But the most interesting thing is that there are two, long , thin radiators that run both sides down the rear of the interior tub, providing warmth for everyone - but it doesn't stop there. There is a working military Webasto heater mounted under the bonnet. Even with the engine switched off, an interior switch activates the heating. In effect this means that the vehicle can be prewarmed without running the engine, or occupants can remain warm when the engine isn't running, as in a camper. What this all means is that this would be an amazing winter truck to own and use.
As one can see from the photos, the typical squaddie look is retained, and we think it looks just right. Theres a towbar, mudflaps, reversing light and some remnants of aerial antennas on the wings. The 750 tyres will serve to improve gearing ratios too.
Internally the addition of rear windows makes for a bright and airy feel. Front seats are deluxe and there's a handy cubby box too. Rear seats are bench type. There's an interesting large 12v socket that remains in the passenger footwell - probably for starting other vehicles. It would be a fun project to get some proper jump leads to fit the socket so when you are out in the cold weather you could help others who have a flat battery! There are some other military switches too, which all helps with that fun, ex military feel.
Out on the road, the old girl pulls really well, and starts very easily. These non electrical, traditional diesel engines are great too - simple to maintain, and ruggedly reliable.
If you are looking for a 90, particularly for harsh weather use, then this fun ex military 90 would be ideal.
