History:
Dodge’s Dart was a front-engine rear wheel drive passenger vehicle that was produced from 1959 to 1976. Throughout four generations of production the body received numerous design improvements, the most elegant of which was the inverse rear window curves which later became the series’ trademark. The available engines came in the mainstream V8 layout and the less powerful yet more sophisticated slanted 6 cylinder version. The latter was designed by Chrysler’s future chief engineer Willem Weertman to have its block tilted at a 30 degree angle permitting for intake and outtake runners of equal length and thereby even torque distribution throughout the range. Of the 3 slanted six capacities offered, the largest 225ci was used as basis to develop an even more raised block casting and crankshaft stroke (RG series) providing for even greater torque and over 145 bhp of output. However, in 1976 this version suffered a performance reduction due to federal emissions control management which was partly remedied by Dodge via fitting a Carter BBD 2-barrel carburetor with revised manifolds and electric choke assembly.
This particular Dart Swinger was assembled in 1969 for the US market in the most commendable Dark Green Metallic with Green interior and Black Vinyl top. In 1987 it was acquired by Greece’s foremost Dodge expert, distributor and collector. Performance was fenhanced by fitting the Super Six double barrel carburetor and manifold set up allowing for an additional 15bhp. After many years of dry storage, the vehicle was subjected to a superior level 3-year long nut and bold restoration with carefully sourced NOS and remanufactured parts. The accident and rust free body was resprayed in the original color, the interior was trimmed in the original color and material. The engine, transmission, suspension, brakes and electrics were totally overhauled. A modern set of Bilstein shocks and a modern set of wheels was fitted with the originals stored. The end result is a cosmetically and mechanically exceptional vehicle ready to be displayed at any private or public event.
