This beautiful ’82 R107 500SL as a lovely original example that has had just one owner since 1986.
Finished in the period perfect colour scheme of Light Ivory with cream MB Tex and a contrasting dark brown hood. It’s well-specified with desirable options including rear seats, air conditioning and cruise control.
Full service history – looked after all its life by Mercedes Great West Road, London, and Schmitt Motors of London. All books and manuals plus a folder of bills going back decades.
Lots of recent work including new Sachs dampers all round, new front subframe mounts, new timing chain and tensioner, resealed steering box, A/ C service and much more. Just been serviced.
We tend to find that R107s these days are polarised between superb, low mileage and therefore expensive examples and poor examples (though often externally shiny) needing lots of work. This 500SL is exactly what is so hard to find today, a super original, honest solid car in good condition throughout.
The bulkhead is original and perfect, the body, having been always garaged and always from salt in London, is excellent underneath. The paintwork is very good with only a couple of very minor marks.
The hood has been replaced a few years ago and is in perfect condition, and the factory hardtop is with the car in excellent condition.
The interior is superb and totally original with Zebrano wood, MB Tex upholstery and its correct over mats.
The car runs very well with correct oil pressure and temperature readings, and it drives very well too thanks to the recent suspension overhaul. With the 500 engine there is lots of power and wonderfully relaxed high speed cruising.
