In March of 2016 Porsche unveiled the limited edition 911 R for the Geneva Motor Show. Just 991 units were produced for Porsche preferred customers.
Using the power unit from one of Stuttgart’s finest, the 997 GT3 RS's normally aspirated 4. 0 litre 493 hp engine, and a new six speed manual transmission, the R was a T. K. O.
The reason this car is so special is because it bucks contemporary trends of turbocharging and automatic, PDK, DSG and DCT transmissions with zero compromise taking the driver back to grass roots driving for the sake of driving.
The rear seats and infotainment system are deleted, the six speed manual gearbox is quick to shift with rev-matching technology and is lighter than the PDK, the front wings are constructed of carbon composite, the roof is magnesium, side and rear glass is polycarbonate, the exhaust system is moulded titanium and the sound insulation has been peeled away to achieve a kerb weight of just 1, 370 kilograms.
That makes this road going monster 50 kilograms lighter than the GT3 RS and faster with the 0-100km/ h sprint achieved in just 3. 1 seconds, that’s 0. 4 of a second quicker than its more track focused brother.
The car offered here is the Hero specified 911 R in White with Guards Red stripes and Black/ Red Porsche Deco script over Houndstooth trim in homage to the original 1967 911R.
