Description

This very tidy and original bodied Alvis 12/ 40 was despatched from the works on the 29th July 1924 and exported to Australia where the car was bodied as a four seater tourer by Kirkham of Sydney.

The first owner, a Mr Boyce was a Sydney based real estate broker who eventually passed the car to its second owner a Mr John Claude Cole in whose family it remained until circa 1980.

Consigned to auction, the 12/ 40 was complete but dilapidated when Australian Alvis Owner’s Club member Mr Fred Heming bought the car.

A couple of years later Mr Heming sold the car to Mr Rob Simpson who carried out a comprehensive restoration with new wood and metal work repairs as needed together with a mechanical overhaul.

The 12/ 40 was then used to tour the Eastern States, South Australia and Tasmania.

The 12/ 40 had its engine overhauled again before being repatriated to the UK in 2011.

The car then became part of a private Alvis collection with recent works to the carburettor magneto and brakes together with new tyres.

This particular 12/ 40 is one of only six Kirkham bodied Alvis 12/ 40 cars known to have survived and indeed surviving 12/ 40s are now few and far between.
