EXTERIOR
The latest incarnation from BMW M Power reveals the blockbuster M2 Competition in a menacing and mesmerising shade Hockenheim Silver, pearlescent it changes significantly from silver to almost white depending on the light. As you would expect the depth and quality of the finish is first class, perfectly accentuating the style and aggression of this compact sports coupe. Built in the same vein as the successful 1M predecessor, styling additions include a heavily structured front bumper with winglets to aid cooling whilst a new side feature line and chrome highlights house the repeater lights
To the rear a small boot lip spoiler and a prominent rear bumper house an integral diffuser with M division’s signature quad tailpipes. Together, the exterior design changes are claimed to reduce drag by 5% as well as reduce lift by up to 35% over the standard 2 Series.
INTERIOR
The familiarity of the latest M Power variants is most welcome here; a blend of style, comfort and the latest tech with M specific switchgear accented by a naked carbon fibre weave. The electronic memory bucket seats from the M3/ M4 and a first for the M2 are framed by intricate blue stitching throughout, offer a full range of adjustment while the M Stitched wheel is adjustable for both reach and rake to find that perfect driving position. With 3 engine modes available for the Turbocharged 3 litre, performance can be turned up or pared back accordingly. In addition steering feedback can be altered separately now allowing further customisation to driver preference.
With Navigation and Bluetooth as standard the specification is further improved by the optional M2 Plus Pack and M2 Comfort pack; Heated seats, Harmon Kardon, USB, Enhanced bluetooth with wireless charging and Wifi hotspot preparation. In addition other optional extra fitted to this example include Apple car play and a heated steering wheel.
The BMW M2 Competition interior is all about achieving an authentic motorsport feel. It features the M specific instrument display with red dials and M2 Competition welcome screen. It also lets you set individual driving profiles, while the shift paddles allow gear changes in a matter of seconds (with optional M DCT transmission).
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The S55-designated twin turbocharged unit originally fitted to the M3 and M4 has now found its way into the M2 Competition including the lightweight carbon engine brace, functional as well as a work of art.
The DCT gearbox is a revelation and combined with the S designation true BMW Motorsport engine, the car feels totally engaging – get up and go rapid whilst retaining sublime refinement.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Wrapped in the ultimate road going Michelin Super Sport rubber the new Competition 788 M Y-Spoke alloys are finished in Jet Black and diamond cut faces. An intricate design and along with the colour coding work perfectly against the silver paintwork and gloss black grilles.
An optional ‘must have’ M Sport brake system is fitted, finally providing BMW M cars with immense stopping power whether on the road or track. Enlarged 6 piston calipers finished in silver feature up front and clamp to huge 400mm discs while the rear featuring 4 pistons and 380mm discs. A significant upgrade to the standard brakes fitted to the early M2 and non-optioned M2 Competitions.
HISTORY FILE
Delivered new in October 2018 this M2 Competition has a huge spec with both the M2 Comfort pack, M2 Plus pack and M Sport Brakes, it has had nearly every option ticked.
Purchased by ourselves from new it was subjected to a theft from us and is now categorised as an N (Category D) due to this. The car was recovered in close proximity having only covered 20 miles and as such is now at a significant discount to it’s list price of nearly £58k.
It is still covered by BMW’s 3 year / unlimited mileage warranty with a further service pack available at further cost for complete hassle free motoring. It is currently sitting with low mileage and is ready to be used and enjoyed as one of the best M cars recently produced.
