1990 Mercedes-Benz 500SL
An early R129 500SL finished in what many think is the best colour combination of Nautic Blue metallic with Mushroom leather interior. Only 97k miles backed up by a full service history.
Launched at the end of 1989, the new SL was ground breaking. Not only did the new Bruno Sacco styled body seem impossibly svelte and modern compared with its 18-year old predecessor, but the step change in technology was huge incorporating multi-valve engines, automatic roll-over protection, power hood and even an electrically operated rear view mirror. Internationally the car was universally lauded and despite being extremely expensive (this car was around £75k in 1990) the demand was huge creating a two-year waiting list.
Supplied new in September 1990 by London Road Garage, Romford, this 500SL – the top model - was well equipped as usual with heated/ memory/ electric seats, air conditioning, cruise control and rear seats. Thirty years on it has covered just 97k miles supported by a full service history comprising of 25 services. MoT until December 2020 and last serviced 28 miles ago in November 2019. Last owner 11 years.
The only non-original parts are a set of AMG style 17in wheels, a more modern stereo and a pair of clear indicators. The rest of the car is very original and still retains its correct two-tone paint finish.
Very good condition throughout with no rust and a tidy interior. Drives well and the drivetrain is in great condition. Could do with a new hood (£1500) as the original has become a bit tatty.
All original books/ manuals and two remote keys. HPI clear.
All in all, a nice early 500 in great colours, low mileage and full history. A few minor jobs and it will be spot on. What incredible value for money for such an iconic car.
