We are delighted to present for sale this rebuilt Series 3 109, that we previously sold to a customer in 2013. This vehicle would be ideal for someone who is looking for a Series 3 to use as a workhorse, whilst keeping the vintage look!
Externally, this vehicle has lots of desirable features such as the bonnet mounted spare, recent front bumper, defender door mirrors for extra visibility, towball and electrics, rear grab handles and rear mudflaps. There is even a working capstan winch (very useful for work or towing!), which can be engaged by pulling the red lever – this is connected to the PTO and gearbox so can be turned using the engine to drive it – handy for those heavy jobs needing extra muscle! Chequerplate has also been fitted to the wingtops to increase strength. The vehicle sits on modular style 750 tyres – these give better gearing to allow for a more comfortable cruising experience, whilst also making it stand tall – in our opinion, the combination of all these things creates quite a handsome truck.
The interior houses three front standard seats, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The middle seat is on stays – meaning it can be folded away when not in use to increase carrying capacity – handy for long items! The rear is unfitted, apart from a load mat on the rear floor – the spare is on the bonnet so the recess to retain it in the rear behind the driver is empty. A vehicle with this level of load space would be ideal for many uses – the previous owner used it for his plastering business, and the gent we sold it to originally used it for his gardening business! These vehicles are also ideal camping machines – for carrying bikes to the woods for a ride and for fitting a roof tent! Twin bench seats could be fitted along both sides, meaning that there is space for 8 people to sit in the rear – giving a total of 11 seated including the driver…ideal for shooting, estate work or taking the family to get the Christmas Tree. That is what is so appealing with a 109 like this – they are very versatile, and can be used for a multitude of situations.
Out on the road, this Series 3 delivers a pleasing period driving experience, aided by the larger rubber to give slightly easier cruising – with the extra weight the LWB has, they tend to ride better than their SWB counterparts – and this is no exception, being very smooth out on the tarmac. The history file shows evidence of previous money spent, which is good to see. The added bonus of the Galvanised Chassis (not commonly seen in LWB variants) is great to see – it still looks very ‘fresh’ and had just been done when we bought the vehicle first time around…. a photo of this is in the advert, to show what we mean!
In summary then, if you are looking for a cost-effective way to get into Series Land Rover® ownership, whilst getting a vehicle that wards away the normal corrosion concerns, then this could be for you. With the large load space, towball and electrics and working Capstan Winch, this vehicle would be ideal to use for work – or to use as a camping machine with the bikes and a roof tent!
