A thoroughly useable and unmolested early R129 500SL with full service history from new.
The R129 SL was a car that was hotly anticipated and did not disappoint. When first shown in late ’89 the new SL took the world by storm and quickly became subject to a two year waiting list meaning that early cars were changing hands at well over list.
This 1991 500SL is in the launch brochure colours of Silver with black leather. It was built in January ’91 and sold by Portmann of Manchester. It has a black hood, memory seats, Becker Mexico, fire extinguisher, rear seats and headlamp wash/ wipe.
115k miles from new with five previous owners. Full service history comprising of 28 stamps in the book. Last year £3800 was spent with a Mercedes specialist including new radiator, new distributor caps, rotor arms and seals, gearbox and differential service.
Nice original car with 15-hole alloys, amber indicators and two-tone paintwork. Still retains its original Becker stereo. All original books and manuals.
The hood windows have been replaced perfectly and the hood control module has been replaced. The original hardtop is with the car and in excellent condition. Good tyres all round.
Overall the car is a very nice driver SL. It runs very smoothly, with excellent temperature and oil pressure readings, and drives very well too.
Very clean and tidy bodywork with an excellent interior. No seat bolster wear and good woodwork. The hood is in good condition too and works correctly.
There are a few improvements the next owner could make. For example, the air conditioning is not currently working. But nothing that will prevent enjoyment of the car.
When you consider these were one of the most desirable cars of the early 90s, costing circa £80k, this is a very affordable entry to one of these iconic cars. The perfect way to enjoy the summer in style.
