This is yet another 12/ 60 Beetleback that we have been asked to sell. It has had only four owners from new, the first having kept it from 1931 to 1938, the second from 1938 to 1962 and the third from 1962 to early this year. The fourth owner has decided to sell because he has recently found and bought a 12/ 50 SD Beetleback, a model he has been seeking for many years.
During the previous owners nearly 60 years of tenure, she has been very well cared for. In 2000 the whole car was subjected a nut and bolt restoration. This was a significant undertaking, the whole car was stripped down to the chassis, this was inspected and realigned, the bodies ash frame also checked over, refreshed where necessary with new timber, then the original body panels reinstated. Finally, new paint and interior, departing from the original factory all black, to maroon over black with maroon interior much like the 12/ 60 TL. CZ277 we have just sold.
At this same time, the engine was rebuilt by Tony Leach with the edition of phoenix crank and rods, along with improved lubrication to the centre main. Another update is a modern oil seal on the rear main bearing. Further mechanical works also included the overhaul of the gearbox, finally, the radiator was rebuilt. Time to just add fuel and enjoy the English countryside
