EXTERIOR
This handsome B10 V8 looks great in subtle metallic silver. The lustrous paint presents to a high standard all round with only a dusting of light chips to the front spoiler, bonnet, and headlights. The body appears very straight throughout and shows no signs of rust in any of the usual E39 weak spots. The double-glazed windows are free from any de-lamination issues and the BMW/ Alpina badges are in fine condition all round. An overall great example, and a rare car with just 221 produced for the UK market.
INTERIOR
The B10’s interior is a great place to enjoy a drive, with comfortable seats and lashings of high-quality materials – even the centre console and lower dash are trimmed in leather. The sporty half-alcantara upholstery is in first rate condition with minimal wear and fully functional electric adjustments. The car still retains all its period goodies including the cassette player, telephone handset, and original sat nav display. The boot area is spotless and the carpets throughout are protected by a clean set of Alpina floor mats. The Alpina plaque can also be found stating the build number 781.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
As to be expected the engine bay is clean, tidy, and free from any signs of damage or poor repair. The service booklet shows maintenance at regular mileage intervals but in recent years the car has seen limited use to preserve its low mileage. The most recent service was carried out just a few hundred miles ago, but a fresh service and mechanical inspection will still be done prior to sale for the new keeper’s peace of mind.
Out on the road the car performs admirably, with plenty of low-down torque and that fantastic V8 soundtrack at higher revs. The five-speed switchable transmission is quick to respond, and the steering-mounted controls really add to the level of engagement.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The car sits on factory-upgraded 19-inch alloys, filling the arches perfectly. Each wheel remains in stunning curb-free condition with no age-related wear to report. The original locking centre caps are all present and correct, cleverly concealing the tyre valves within – a feature of genuine Alpina alloys only. The wheels are shod in high quality Michelin tyres, and the brakes work confidently on test.
HISTORY FILE
Following on from its pre-delivery check at the Alpina factory in Buchloe, Germany, this rare UK-supplied B10 V8 was first registered in June 2000. It has now driven just 86k miles in the hands of only three keepers from new. The History File is complete with the leather Alpina document wallet, a raft of maintenance invoices, MOT certificates, and the original maintenance booklet with seven service stamps.
The most recent service was done just a few hundred miles ago in December 2018, and a fresh one will be carried out prior to sale. Having just arrived with us from a private collection, the car has seen only limited use in recent years, remaining dry stored when not on the road. A full mechanical inspection will also be carried out shortly for the new keeper’s peace of mind. The MOT is valid until March 2021.
