The word ‘turbo’ doesn’t hold much currency in terms of car bragging rights these days. But in 1979, only 3 production turbo cars had ever been launched – the BMW 2002 Turbo, the Porsche 911 Turbo and this, the Saab 99 Turbo.
This rare and absolutely stunning example in black with red interior has recently had a nut and bolt bare metal restoration at a cost of over €30k and is perfect in every aspect.
Everything from the beautiful bodywork with its fresh coat of paint, to the fully rebuilt engine, gearbox, rear axle and the long list of brand new suspension and brake components make this as good an example as you would find anywhere and belies the mileage on the clock of 166k miles.
Clearly this is a car that has been thoroughly enjoyed throughout its life and, when you’re behind the wheel, it’s easy to see why because this is a car that seriously impresses!
Apart from the positive feeling brakes and suspension, the upgraded 2. 0 turbo 4-cylinder engine is amazingly fast, even by today’s standards, and particularly loves overtaking slower machinery.
It’s hard to imagine a better example of this highly collectible model, and this special car is one that we wish we could keep for ourselves.
