This car had only one owner until December 1977, and the lady who bought it then kept it for a mouthwatering 43 years on sentimental grounds, having known the owner and promised him to look after it well. This lady was known to me many years ago, and I first saw the car in 1987, and was told, despite its lovely condition, that it was absolutely not for sale. As can be seen from the photographs, the car has been garaged for its entire life.
We have carried out some light recommissioning of the Gazelle, with a brand new genuine old stock exhaust we managed to source, new carburettor overhaul kit, and new spark plugs. As a result the car runs beautifully, and the engine sounds very tight and drives impeccably. The 4-speed manual gearbox delivers silky smooth and precise gearchanges every time, and being such a low mileage car, with a genuine 35, 000 miles on the clock, the riding experience is out of this world!
The interior is astonishing - the rear seats look like they have never even been sat in, and I've taken close-ups to show what I mean. The fronts seats are also in incredible condition. The wood on the door cards and dashboard are usually prone to suffer light cracking in a vehicle of this age but the veneer on this dashboard and all the interior trim are like new, and the carpets are similarly excellent.
As far as the bodywork goes, this car still has its original factory paint though some minor blistering has appeared on both front doors and bottom of the front wings, and some very minor blistering to the very top of the wing at one end. However we did not want to destroy the authenticity of the vehicle at this stage. It still bears its original sills, which are rock-solid.
The engine is a 1725cc four-cylinder and sits in an original unpainted but marvellously preserved engine bay. The car has no trouble whatsoever keeping up with modern traffic. I really can't say enough about how fantastically well looked after this Singer Gazelle has been. It would make any enthusiast beam with pride.
