Description
We have just imported another Toyota Century V12 via our Japanese agent. In 2020 I sold a grey example and was so impressed that I thought I must get another one.
So here it is; a 2001 model that has covered the equivalent of 119000 miles (193000 kms) and is finished in dark metallic blue with contrasting lambs wool interior trim. Notable extras on this car include floor mounted shift lever, rear lace curtains, 'flagpole' and the folding rear table mounted on the rear of the drivers seat. It is supplied with its full book pack and manuals along with Japanese service / inspection history up to 96000 miles. DVLA registration has been processed and the number allocated is Y711 DHN. The MOT is until February 2022.
Our preparation has so far included a new battery, new tyres, fitting a rear foglight (integrated into what was the offside reverse light), oil & filter service along with replacing the fan belt and brake fluid using a genuine Toyota belt and filter supplied by our local main dealer. The front anti roll bar bushes and lower front arm bushes have also been replaced again with genuine Toyota parts.
The Century GZG50 is the only Japanese car to feature a V12 engine and is likely to remain so, making this model a must for any collector of JDM machinery. In Japan the Century is as iconic as the Range Rover is here. The design has barely changed since the first generation went into production in 1967 and ran until 1997 when it was replaced by the version on offer here. This 2nd generation was the only one to use a V12 and it was replaced itself about 3 years ago by an even larger Century that uses a V8 hybrid drivetrain and costs in the region of £145, 000. Parts availability on this 2nd generation is excellent due to its being in production until recently and UK Toyota main dealers are able to supply many parts.
The Century is regarded as Japan's Rolls Royce and rightly so, as the level of refinement and build quality of these coach built cars is second to none; there are 7 coats of paint alone with each one being hand sanded before the next one is applied.
The 5. 0 V12 is officially rated at 286 bhp but due to an agreement between Japanese car manufacturers and their government the actual figure is thought to be slightly more, around the 300 bhp figure, although these cars are all about effortless torque and relaxed performance.
The transmission is a very smooth 4 speed automatic with power and winter modes. On long journeys I have found 24mpg to be a realistic average that is achievable giving a range of up to 400 miles.
The specification of this car also includes individually electrically adjustable rear seats that are heated and massaging, heated and electric front seats, rear vanity mirrors, cruise control, ABS, traction control, 16" alloys, air suspension, cabin ioniser, full size spare wheel, front & rear climate control, CD changer, soft close rear doors. Also fitted to this example is 'Dual EMV' (dual electro multi vision) which is front & rear TV screens and rear VHS video player. This would need upgrading to the latest UK digital system if you wanted to use it however, though I'm sure there are specialists that can advise on this and the available options.
