1935 3 1/ 2 Litre Derby Bentley Park Ward Sports Saloon
Chassis number: B-144-EF
Registration number: BYN966
First Purchased by Mr John P Glass in July 1935 this desirable late 3 ½ litre EF series with all aluminum body, speed sensitive ride control and one shot lubrication really does allow some of the finest pre-war motoring possible.
Service records show that this Derby was located in the North East of England between 1938-68 prior to being purchased by the current owner in 1989 over 3 decades ago.
The current owner, being a professional engineer himself, purchased the car in 1989 & has thoroughly enjoyed and also restored this Derby himself, having covered ten thousand miles in the last ten years through England, Wales, Scotland, France and even picking up the ‘First in class Elegance’ prize at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club annual rally 2016. This is a particularly good driving car & indeed is considerably quicker then some more heavily bodied 4. 25 litre cars we have had.
Condition wise the exterior has benefitted from a bare metal re-spray and has been finished in Black over Stratos Blue and is in fine condition throughout.
The interior is truly superb with great patina throughout, all being original except for the front seat cushions which have been re-trimmed in matching blue Connolly hide. The car has its correct original radiator cap that preceded the advent of the winged B mascot introduced at the end of 1935.
It is clear to see that this example has always been well maintained and cared for as the engine, body, gearbox, dynamo and starter motor are all matching numbers parts.
The engine has been fully rebuilt with a large list of work that has been carried out:
Engine bored, sleeved to standard, crank ground, bearings re-metalled, new pistons, little ends rebushed,
New unleaded cylinder head and valves (Fiennes),
Crankshaft damper reline,
Clutch rebuilt, new clutch plate,
Complete rewire including fitment of a battery master switch,
Headlamps re-silvered and all brightwork re-chromed,
King pins replaced, brakes re-bushed,
Spring blades reset/ replaced, shackle pins and bushed replaced,
One shot lubrication system restored,
Shock absorbers and ride control overhauled,
The full list of works carried out just goes on and on. Two huge files come with the car contaning a plethora of invoices far too numerous for us to photograph & display. Suffice to say this is one of the nicest running & driving Derby Bentleys we have come across needing absolutely nothing doing to it. The car is ready for immediate trouble free extended use with the mechanical condition being a credit to the current owner whom has gone through the car over the last 3 decades from stem to stern to make it simply as good as it can be.
