Description
The Allard P1 was based, as many Allards, on Ford mechanicals. The standard engine was a 3. 6 litre Ford flathead with an option for the larger 3. 9 litre. The transmission is three speed with a column change. The bodywork is aluminium mounted on a strong steel chassis. The cars have independent coil front suspension and telescopic shock absorbers all round. The Lockhead brake system is hydraulic with 12” drums. Over 500 P1 were built at Allard’s factory in Clapham and the owners club believes that there are only 44 still on the road throughout the world.
Sydney Allard himself gave the model a reputation for performance by winning the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally beating none other than a young Stirling Moss into second place.
The car has real presence and turns heads wherever it goes. MLW872 is an older restoration but generally in good condition. Recent brake master and slave cylinders and adjustable shocks on the front. Bluetooth radio in original case. Alternator. A heater which works. Option of original indicator arms. 24 stud Ford flathead engine. The previous owner said it is the 3. 9 litre version but I can’t confirm that. It certainly makes that lovely V8 exhaust sound.
