ALLARD K1 of 1948, equipped with its original Ford Pilot V8 side-valve engine of 3, 622 cm³, was imported many years ago into Greece to join a prestigious collection of classic cars. It is one of the very few surviving Allard K1s (it is said fewer than 20 remain!), produced in a very limited run of only 151 examples, designed by the exceptional creator Sydney Allard between 1946 and 1949. Our K1 is the 143rd K1 produced.
Thanks to its lightweight chassis and coachwork, and the more powerful Ford or Mercury side-valve V8 engines that were available for the European market, it offered remarkable performance for its era.
Originally designed for road use, the Allard K1 and K2 also benefited from a chassis inspired by the famous Allard J2 racing car, giving them excellent competition potential.
Allards with a high power-to-weight ratio foreshadowed the Sunbeam Tiger and AC Cobra of the early 1960s.
Carroll Shelby, the designer of the Cobra, and Zora Arkus-Duntov, the chief engineer of the Chevrolet Corvette, both drove Allards in the early 1950s, drawing inspiration from these cars for the respective creation of the Cobra and the Corvette.
A highly experienced mechanic has cared for this exceptional sports car for all these years in Athens. It runs perfectly. Its Ford eight-cylinder engine emits a powerful and captivating tone. Thanks to the meticulous work of our passionate mechanic, the engine cooling has been successfully optimised.
Hydraulic valve lifters have also been installed for a much smoother operation and better engine performance.
The four hubcaps are in excellent condition and the spare wheel accompanies the car.
