1890 Waterous Horse Drawn Fire Pumper
Waterous was established in 1844 as the Waterous Engine Works Co. Ltd., founded by C. H. Waterous in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. The company-built sawmill equipment and steam fire engines, and revolutionised firefighting, producing the first gasoline-engine-driven fire pump in the late 1880s. This example was acquired in complete and original condition in Canada in about 1980 and taken to Tasmania where it underwent a careful restoration, then spending many years in a popular country house museum. It joined the vendor’s private transport collection in Goulburn in 2012. Retaining a spectacular brass warning bell, lamps and a hose with brass fittings, it presents a rare opportunity to acquire a unique and eye-catching vehicle suitable for commercial horse-drawn events.
