THIS is my ultra-rare Austin A40 Countryman Mark 1. She is a 1961 model.
Mark 1 A40s are rare enough birds in their own right and instantly recognisable by their wavy grille, their headlight designs and their interiors which, on early ones, featured the speedo pod left over from production of the Austin A35!
But to make this car even more sought after, she is the Countryman. That is to say an example of the UK's first ever hatchback! The boot lid folds down as it does on all A40s, but the rear window on the Countryman lifts up to create a superb large load area! The rear seat fold down and there you have. A hatchback!
From what I can tell, she has had no welding underneath and looks to be really strong. She has just arrived from Ireland and I have completed the NOVA declaration (Notification of Vehicle Arrival). From her Irish V5 equivalent, it shows that she left the UK for there in 1996. All you have to do now is to fill in a V5/ 55 and you will get her back on UK plates and very probably, even her original reg!
As I say, a rare opportunity to acquire an A40 Countryman made all the more desirable due to it being a Mark 1. Her panels are very good an the bulk of her paintwork is fine. I would point out some fine "crazing" to the bonnet's paint finish.
