Well presented, all working as intended 1936 Austin 12/ 6 Ascot with an incredibly patinaed interior and the desirable 6 cylinder engine, ready to admire and enjoy and you won’t need a re-mortgage to buy it.
We have tried and tested this car and have no problems or issues to report, we even used it at our neighbours wedding where it was admired by all, it makes a stunning wedding car, but yet looks a superb “none wedding” car without the white ribbons as its not bright white or solid cream in colour.
Just released from a private collection, has been sparingly used in the last 15 years by the current owner, the owner before that being its custodian for 10 years and just 3 other previous keepers its 85 year lifespan. There is a comprehensive history file, packed with invoices, old MOT’s, tax discs, handbooks, magazines and letters, plus a selection of period tools in the under bonnet locker, a spare wheel in the boot and even a spare head gasket in the dedicated storage slot on the bulkhead.
Its in great running order, starts very easily, holds excellent oil pressure, it does everything it should do, just as clean and tidy underneath as it is on top. You can’t drive it down the road without a grin on your face, a smile every mile guaranteed, goes really well and easily keeps up with modern traffic, no untoward bangs, clangs or rattles as you float along, gears select easily, travels along at speed with no problems or noises, brakes working well with an excellent handbrake, all the lights work including the original trafficators, all the gauges operate and the wipers and horn, even the cabin light works on the pillar switch.
The longer bonnet to accommodate the 6 cylinder engine with 4 vents on each side, the tilting windscreen and optional front door wind deflectors all add to an overall impressive look. Slide back the large sunroof, tilt the windscreen, get the side windows open and listen to the burble of the lovely sweet engine as you float along at up to 50mph, a couple of taps on the impressive twin horns gives the waving pedestrians a well-toned “harp harp”, not just a feeble squeaky beep.
Very simple to drive, same layout and gear pattern as a modern car, just turn the key and press the start button (just like a modern car and they think the start button is a new idea). It’s a good size car and has a surprising amount of space when inside, the rear suicide doors making for easy access, even in a wedding dress.
The interior is utterly charming, it has that unrepeatable gently worn look with no major holes, splits or cracks on the leather to spoil your first impressions, the matching door cards with pockets add to the opulence, as does the folding rear seat armrest, rear window pull down blinds, roof mounted storage net, twin “Austin” logo ash trays and fold out foot rests. The dash and door tops all finished in light wood and a very comprehensive cockpit full of clocks complete the luxury, it’s really is a charming car to travel in.
It presents well and it will be admired wherever you go, paint finish is suited to the car, it’s not immaculate, has a little age it does have a deep shine you can see your reflection in but close inspection will find the odd blemish and imperfection, it’s generally smart and mechanical very good but it’s not concours, the head lining is a little aged and worn in areas, it’s an 85 year young motor proudly showing its age in areas. No rot or soft panels anywhere.
Have some fun with your savings, you bank manager isn’t doing you any favours with the 0. 01% interest rates, tick the box off your bucket list and own a vintage car, won’t be worth any less when you’ve had your enjoyment.
