This stunning 1976 Beetle ‘Superbug’ 1600s was supplied to me from a Beetle and VW Kombi specialist in Johannesburg, South Africa.
They did a full body off restoration. The engine, gearbox and suspension has been reconditioned. The original shell was totally rust free as it came from northern SA. They shot-blasted it, painted it in the original Bronze and rebuilt everything as it was originally, built in the SA factory. These 1600s ‘Superbugs’ are unique to South Africa and in 1976 were offered in only 4 colours, ours being one of these in Bronze. The 1303 was the inspiration to the 1600s ‘Superbug’ whilst they slightly changed the look and feel of it with a larger front bonnet, redesigned windshield and dash as well as the larger 1600s engine. The suspension is the original VW suspension system, not the 1303 suspension.
Our Bug has 140k kilometres (90k miles) on the clock although this is mainly irrelevant as it has been totally refurbed and reconditioned. The refurbed car has now only done 600 miles since being completed.
It has been dry stored since having the refurb done. Email me for a video for a closer look
