history
in 1983 the 2cv beachcomber model arrived in the united kingdom; It was known as "france 3" in france or "transat" in other continental european markets—citroën sponsored the french america's cup yacht entry of that year.
citroen only produced around 1500 genuine rhd "beachcomber" model for the uk market and only a handful of these special limited edition have survived today making this a great choice for any 2cv investor or collector!!

the original genuine 2cv beachcomber models were produced by citroen in very limited production numbers to celebrate citroen involvement in the french american cup in 1983
this is one of the few remaining genuine beachcombers produced in 1983

in better than new condition throughout
a366 ayj was supplied new on the 1st august 1983 by "fields of crawley which at the time was the biggest citroen dealer in sussex
the car is finished in the correct and only "beachcomber" colour available
white with blue stripped exterior , interior and blue stripped sunroof
occasionally a restoration project will sell for several thousands and with all the possible money spent on it will not be anything like this incredible example!

my car has been properly cared for from new and is in absolutely stunning condition throughout !
i purchased the car during october 1998 over 23 years ago to add it to my classic car collection
even back then i struggled to find a half decent "beachcomber" as they were rare even back then and when this car came up for sale i snapped it up !
i had no intentions of ever selling it however my plans have changed and im moving overseas in the near future hence why its being offered for sale
i would never want to not own a 2cv so i have decided to sell the "beachcomber" and keep my 1976 "spot" which ive also owned for many years !
this outstanding little citroen car still has the original citroen maintenance guide car service schedule boolet with the correct dealer suppling details is still in the original blue citroen service wallet
a mere 52000 miles properly maintained and serviced miles
( an average of just 1350 miles per year )
furthermore the engine has just undergone a full recommissioning

the car has had just 3 previous owners in 38 years
1st mrs p hopkins from crawley sussex who purchased the car new on thr 1st august 1983
2nd mrs t riddle from crawley sussex from 4th september 1987
i have had the car dry stored since 2015 periodically starting the car and running around to ensure nothing seized up
although the car was exceptional i decided to have it brought back to an "as new" condition so during 2020/ 2021 as part of a full inside and out recommissioning the following work was carried out ......................
paintwork
the bodywork was rot free probably helped by the rust preservation treatment when the car was new !!!
however after 38 years the exterior paintwork had picked up small marks and dinks on most panels and the only way to make such a rare 2cv perfect was to invest in a professional high quality total body off, strip to a shell detailed quality repaint
there was no way i was going to let the car be subject to a mask up and blow over respray as i had made my mind up that i wanted a car that when finished was better than new
so having spoken to several body shops it was clear that you get what you pay for and such a special cherished car deserved the very best highest quality attention so after a lengthy meeting i appointed a paint rectification / coach builders in chertsey surrey called medicaf's
medcalf & co ltd are one of a few approved paint shops for bentley uk, they are also approved for porsche audi bmw vw seat so needless to say they offer the highest possible standards in paint renovation. However quality comes at a price and the work carried out on the 2cv cost me a staggering
£5000. 00 !!!

the cars body was removed from the galvanised chassis
all glass was removed and the car was stripped completely to include wings bonnet, tailgate , doors , bumpers , grill , external brightwork , lights , all removed
the shell was stripped back to bare metal before being zinc rust protected / then undersealed / stone chipped and then painted inside / outside / underneath in the original correct citroen white
all external panels were stripped back to bare metal then prepared , rust protected and re painted before being refitted and detailed in the process !
i was advised by medcalf's that as far as they could tell the car still had all the original panels and paintwork furthermore they found no evidence of any previous repairs
they commented that the car was the most rust free citroen 2cv they had seen in years, they stated that both sills were like new and the common areas of concern on 2cvs the floors. Bulkhead and windscreen surround were superb
bodywork saved by a decent paint preservation from new together with a life of light useage and garaging !!
needless to say they turned a car with good bodywork into a flawless like new show example
the car is beter protected than it ever was when it left citroen back in 1983
it really is stunning !!

the car has been with an independent classic car specialist in shere near guildford surrey who works on an individual car basis !!
he not cheap but is a detailed perfectionist
my remit to him was to go through the "beachcomber" from front to back and return it to me in like new condition
during the process which took 12 + months the following work was completed
most referbishment items were purchased from "the 2cv shop " who are one of uks premier 2cv parts suppliers so as to ensure the best possible heritage parts were fitted to the "beachcomber"
i could not recommend the 2cv shop enough and are an asset to any 2cv owner !!!

the interior is like new with the front and rear seats having just been subject to a full refurb using all genuine citroen new citroen seat covers purchased from france via the 2cv shop
it has the correct and original dark blue door cards in perfect condition with no nasty speaker holes cut into them
it still has the original correct blue canvas rear parcel shelf
its hard to believe its a 38 year old car and the interior is as good as the exterior !!
the soft top has been replaced with a genuine oem one supplied by the 2cv shop
the original rubber floor covering is still like new
the boot floor is perfect
as is the rear spare wheel wells which carries the unused spare wheel
no nasty holes cut out for speakers in the rear parcel shelf or doors
the dash is free from cracks or damage with only the original switch gear being present
furthermore its never had a radio fitted !!
the underside of the car is like a brand new car !!
