1987 Austin Maestro City Van 1275cc Petrol. 82K original miles.
I bought this van in 2016 from the Midlands. Originally this van was a British Telecom van as you can still see where the distinctive blue livery on the side would have been. One of the previous owners has turned it in to a British Rail liveried van. My plan was to go back to BT livery once finished.
I have done quite a bit of work in my ownership. I replaced the inlet and exhaust gaskets as the exhaust was blowing. It’s had a new centre exhaust section. I’ve also replaced the master cylinder as this had failed.
Mechanically now the van is very good, it’s starts effortlessly with the aid of the manual choke and sounds brilliant. The clutch is good as is the suspension and steering. All the electrics work.
The only issue is the bodywork, if you’re looking at a Maestro Van then you’re no stranger to rust and rot and this van has a bit but nothing terminal. I have carried out a lot of welding myself and have a full comprehensive file of photos of everything I’ve done that can be seen. I have mainly done welding around the driver and passengers footwells due to a leaky windscreen. I’ve also done some repairs around the van roof rear corners as well. There’s still more work to be done but like I said nothing terminal, this would be a decent project.
