Description
The Beta signified the beginning of a new era for Lancia. Under Gianni Agnelli’s supervision, Lancia engineers would now revise existing Fiat technology prior to integrating it to a series of innovations for Beta. The Aurelio Lambredi DOHC engine received a redesigned cylinder head permitting for hemispherical combustion chambers, larger manifolds and upgraded carburation. As per Lancia tradition, it was fitted at an angle to allow for a lower center of gravity and better body aerodynamics. At a transverse 20-degree rearward tilt, the engine was aligned with a 5-speed gearbox in order to even out powertrain weight distribution over the front wheels. The rear suspension consisted of a ground breaking system of 4 centrally pivoted parallel rods and an anti roll bar placed anteriorly that minimized front wheel drive understeering and body roll during hard cornering. With rack and pinion steering, MacPherson struts at the front and rear and disc brakes all around, the Lancia Beta was destined to be a sophisticated yet thrilling performer. Its austere personality was best expressed in the sharp contours of its Coupe body drawn by the experienced hands of Castagno and Castagnero.
The Beta offered is a rare find for its astounding factory original condition. Produced in October of 1976 in Sahara Beige over Marrone Naturale, it features the series 2 revised 1. 6lt unit as well as athermic windows, air condition and electric windows. It retains most of its original paint over a rust-free body and its flawless interior trim with original equipment. The matching engine has received proper maintenance over the years with no overhaul ever recorded. It was recently fully serviced and passed an official thorough technical inspection for daily use. Its museum level authenticity was featured in a special article in January 2022 issue of Greece's foremost magazine, 4troxoi. After only 25730 km and a 44-year long single ownership, this Beta presents at a stellar cosmetic and mechanical condition and offered with service history, recent MoT and Lancia Certificate of Origin.
