We are delighted to present for sale this soft-top Series 2a Land Rover®, presented in the popular Light Pastel Green colour scheme with Limestone Wheels.
Externally, this charming Series 2a has, in our opinion, a really vintage look – from the wing top mounted mirrors, vintage plates, rear grabhandles, vintage grill badges and deep sills, it looks the part. This vehicle has not been recently refurbished, and so the paintwork and galvanising generally has a slightly weathered patina finish – this isn’t an excuse for poor paintwork, moreover that the vehicle suits the current style of paint which we have elected to leave as is. This will appeal to those of you who intend to use the vehicle or who enjoy some of the character that such a finish brings… it also means we are able to bring this Series 2a to the market at a very competitive price point for those of you working to a tighter budget.
The interior of the vehicle sports three deluxe front seats, with the added benefit of pre-fitted rear bench seats (normally a cost option), and a spare wheel which is neatly stowed with a cover in the rear, and the canvas has side windows (again, a cost option) affording a more pleasant ride in the rear. There is a heater fitted in the front, and the dash is pleasingly standard. Deluxe matting is fitted to the front footwells and a load mat is fitted in the rear.
Out on the road is perhaps where this old girl shows herself off to her best – the diesel engine is a later 5MB unit, which is more refined than what would’ve been fitted ‘in the day’. It starts keenly with minimal smoke and runs very nicely indeed. It is also mated to a recently reconditioned Series 3 gearbox, which gives synchromesh throughout the gear changes, unlike the Series 2a box of the day. This drivetrain has been mated to longer ratio differentials and free wheeling hubs giving the best possible gearing setup for more modern motoring. This set up gives the best economy possible from a period engine, and gives much more relaxed cruising on the open road. Whilst we are used to diesel variants being more sluggish and noisy, this marriage negates much of the downsides that would normally be associated with a diesel setup.
In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2a which enjoys MOT and Tax exemption, and want to transport up to seven occupants with the best MPG figures whilst not breaking the bank on the initial outlay of your Classic Land Rover® purchase, this sweet little vehicle is well worth considering.
