What a gem we have here, welcome to the sale of our lovely 1970 Landrover series 2a.
She started life down in Kingston upon Thames and was supplied by F. W. D Motors LTD to a large estate.
The Landrover clearly hasn’t had a hard life and looks to have been well looked after.
4 previous owners, 3 of which we believe were the same family that owned the estate.
She has covered a mere 84k and I believed that to be correct, although there is no proof.
She had been off the road since about 2015/ 16 (that’s the tax disc that was with it). Kept in a dry shed until our friend found it, he intended on putting it back on the road but never got round to it, so after much persuasion he finally sold me it.
I intended on keeping it, so I have had the car recommissioned to how I would want it and it’s turned out just perfect in my eyes.
So here goes! The axles were removed, as well as all the springs, shockers etc. The chassis was stripped to bare metal and any corrosion was dealt with (which was very little, we replaced the two front outriggers and a spring hanger), rust treated and painted with a high quality chassis paint.
The axles were rebuilt with new swivel house bearings and seals, new wheel bearings, new brake shoes and cylinders and were stripped back to bare metal and painted same as the chassis. All new brake pipes were added, metal and the rubber flexis.
I then decided to upgrade the springs to a parobolic setup and all new shockers and bushes were added. This has really improved the the ride of an old series!
A new petrol tank was fitted along with replacing the rubber parts of the fuel lines.
The engine has run from day one and is just superb, it is so quiet and smooth. We gave it a full service including fiters and oils, ignition system overhaul and added a lovely brand new Webber carb to increase reliability and performance as the original zenith carbs are awful.
Now, the interior is my favourite part of a series 2 Landrover with the steel dash and the centre clocks and everything works as it should. It benefits from having a new wash/ wiper switch and a high beam foot switch, we also replaced two of the seat base cushions as the others were ripped (originals are included with the sale). I added a rubber floor mat to the rear and front rubber mats, the Landrover also has a few original optional extras, this includes delux doors cars (originals), delux seats and seat belts and these were all from factory. When cleaning the chassis I discovered a small roll of paper stuffed between the floor of the tub and crossmember and it’s the original list of optional extras the car had!
The body work is lovely, and how I personally think a 50 year old Landrover should look. The bulkhead is solid, it’s had the corners repaired to a high standard, which you can’t see. We had the door tops replaced as the old ones had seen better days, (the original glass is included in the sale) which is a big improvement. There are various dints, scratches and sun bleached paint around the vehicle and i think it looks brilliant, I’ve had loads of comment when out and about with it.
I’ve replaced the wheels and tyres with some slightly more modern tubeless wheels which still look the same, these are wrapped in the Michelin classic all terrain pattern, i have the original wheels and tyres and these also can be included in the sale.
Overall this is a fantastic little series 2 Landrover and I will be genuinely sad to see it go. It drives superb for one of these and this is a rare opportunity to buy one as original and looked after as this.
