1987 Maroon & Black Charleston (£4000 O. N. O)
For sale is my 1987 Charleston, Claude.
Claude is a lovely motor and has been driven regularly by me over the last 18 Months. He has been reliable and has done trips to Aberystwyth and Whitby without a hitch. He has been looked after by reputable mechanic Peak 2cv for the last 5+ years.
He's not a show car, and has some common 2CV issues. I have tried to illustrate these in the pictures. Before last MOT I had £900 of welding done on floors and sills and has had issues with speedometer resolved and an ignition rebuild in the last few months There is work needed down the pipeline (new roof, new toeboard) but he is a good honest runner and has MOT til September. You will know what you are buying which is half the battle of course.
The strongest thing about the car is the engine & the chassis. It's had an engine rebuild in the last 10 years and it's running & starting well. The chassis is in good condition and regularly undersealed.
The main frame of the car is okay but has rust in pretty much all the usual places (numberplate, back corners, underneath the windscreen). These are long term issues and will need addressing but probably something further down the line.
Other desirable jobs in the next year or so - new roof (the one on is really old and getting a bit gross!, £200 or so and 4 screws to replace!). New boot lid as its pretty ropey and a new boot floor as it has a big hole in it (not an MOT fail though so not urgent).
Will be really sad to see him go, but we have had a wonderful 18 months bombing around the peaks and it's the right time for Claude to go to a new home.
