The Riley Pathfinder was produced from 1953 until 1959. Thought of as the last “proper” Riley saloon it was similar in body design to the Wolseley 6/ 90 but used Riley’s own 2. 5 litre twin cam engine from the older RMF saloon.
This car is a remarkable find. It was laid up and dry stored in 1962 and only removed from storage last year. Although clearly in “barn find” condition the upper body and underside are in very solid condition. The interior and under bonnet are best described as scruffy but well preserved and will both tidy up. Surprisingly, 60 years after it was last regularly used, after a clean-up of the plugs and points, the owner has had the engine running, briefly, from a remote fuel supply. The car rolls and steers but the brakes are still somewhat sticky and will need freeing off again.
It was first registered in 1954 and has its original buff log-book . The number MMJ736 is original to the car but in common with many cars unused through the 70’s and 80’s it has dropped off the DVLA system and will need re-registering so it's likely that it will go back on its old number. Although the car needs a comprehensive restoration and is being sold as such it would be hard to imagine a better un-restored Pathfinder project coming to light.
