A car that needs very little introduction. The Ford Thunderbird was the ultimate in personal luxury since its inception in the 1950's. Powerful engines, luxurious appointments and futuristic styling. The sleek, cigar shaped, rocket influenced body of the early 60's cars is favoured by many and has an understated yet head turning style. The battle for ever increasing power between Ford and GM had filtered down to their road cars and the Thunderbirds 390 Cubic Inch V8 (6. 4 litre) gave effortless performance, driven through a 3 speed automatic transmission.
This particular car came to the UK in 2017 via Germany. It is a remarkably solid car and was highly specified with AM radio, electric windows, air conditioning and swing away steering wheel. Originally finished in 'Silver Mink', at some point the car has been repainted in the very fetching shade of 'Sahara Rose'. The engine and gearbox are in excellent form and it has benefitted from a recent, power assisted, front disc brake conversion making it suitable for modern traffic. It has also benefitted from 4 new shock absorbers and new brake lines. I have just cruised home in this car and was thoroughly impressed.
These Thunderbirds really are a bargain at the moment compared to their muscle car counterparts. They are so much more refined and useable and are a pleasure to own. Come and give it a try!!
