Description

This is a very special motorcycle. It is a limited edition of only 25, produced by Mr Gerold Vogel about 37 years ago with the blessing of Mr Fabio Taglioni the designer of the Desmo engine and Ducati.

Mr Taglioni not only contributed to its design but allowed his name to be inscribed on the engine cases and the Desmo glass portal.

Mr Vogel and Mr Taglioni also signed a numbered certificate and this bike is number 18/ 25. Mr Vogel kept number 1 but it’s been used.

I can’t add much more other than to say it’s last of the Desmo line, try and find and buy another with 8 PDI kms on. This Mille is the engine which Mr Taglioni finally described as the perfect Desmo.

Please read the script on the card shown in the photographs, it’ll tell you all you need to know about this museum or collector’s motorcycle. Atlas Group decided it was such an important and rare motorcycle that they produced one of their classic series cards telling the story of how it came to be ! A pristine copy comes with the bike.

How often did Ducati give permission to others to remodel their motorcycles and how often did Mr Taglioni get involved in such a project and then endorse it with his signature ? I can’t find any evidence of this taking place past or present.

Ducati and Mr Taglioni must have really liked Mr Vogel to allow him to produce his 25 beauties which some foreign news articles have described as Jewels and I can’t disagree.

This bike sold in the UK 5 years ago for £66000. It spent many years without a Nova but I have now obtained it.

Goodness knows who would wish to register and ride this bike but you can make up your own mind, it can now be easily registered with DVLA.

I would suggest, as the last of the Desmos to leave Ducati, it needs to be preserved as NOS and simply enjoyed as an investment. The perfected Desmo engine after 20+ years of Mr Taglioni’s work and now 50+ years after Ducati and Mr Taglioni adopted the Desmo for their beautiful motorcycles.

It does not appear to have been started since its PDI with Mr Vogel some 36 years ago and the bike is as new.

The original red and green Ducati full fairing accompanies the bike.

The Kawasaki Zed 1 can also be for sale but it too has a very, very high price in this, the 50th anniversary of the world’s first superbike. Its been described as truly world class and the engine and full rebuild was carried out by Mr David Ennis from Buzzworx…. who else would you trust ? Mr Ennis is an ex Concorde, DC 10, Apache engineer and the go to chap for Kawasaki Zeds. It’s another one for your living room, London apartment, museum or collection.

Why not buy both ! Those lucky enough to have few bob tucked away will have worked out it’s just heading south in the bank.
