The longtime cruise car of celebrated vintage Volvo expert, builder and racer Paul Snook, this 1964 Volvo Amazon retains his original mild custom look, with two-tone paint in his racing colours, slightly lowered suspension, steel-banded original wheels, a P1800 B18B engine with a D-cam for extra oomph and twin SU carbs (he'll do 70 all day long, and would hit a ton), a four-speed gearbox with overdrive (brilliant for motorways), and has a fresh voluntary MOT. When owned by Mr Snook, this car even competed at Castle Combe!
Over the past seven years, using such local firms as Weston Garages in Bath, we have undertaken a comprehensive restoration/ upgrade of this Swedish classic, including a full respray, overhauled suspension, rebuilt carbs, new custom exhaust, seats / interior / dashpad renovation, new front screen and rubbers all round, new radiator, and much, much more - see the list below.
Put simply, he's a turnkey classic where you can be sure that every single thing has been gone through correctly, by people who actually know what they're doing - there's zero rust (as stated, EVERYTHING has been gone through), and he's mechancially totally up together, driving and handling superbly. We just don't use him enough, sadly, so it's time to let him go to another owner.
This 58-year-old classic still returns around 26mpg around town and 32mpg on a run (at 70mph on the motorway). 'Sven' is one of 164 four-door Amazons still on the road in Britain, and with almost every part (apart from the odd cosmetic bit) still being available from UK suppliers, and the model's solid construction, excellent performance and reliability (a Volvo P1800 with the same running gear as the Amazon holds the Guinness Word Record for car mileage), he's an example of a truly practical classic car. This is the classic you always promised yourself, with none of the worry, it's all been sorted, so you can just enjoy!
