Description
Fiat X1/ 9 1300 for restoration. I acquired this car in 2011. There are just two previous owners from new, a Father and Son. Car has been garaged all its life. Evidence shows signs of rust proofing from an early age.
In my 25 years of being an active member of the X1/ 9 owners club I've only seen two other blue special series 1300 cars, both of which were completely rotten and beyond economical repair.
This car requires a full restoration but is generally solid and original throughout and has not been bodged with filler. Being the 1977 model, it requires no tax or MOT. It comes with original parts that are impossible to find on any 1300 car- the rubber front spoiler (not the fiberglass replica), carrello front fog lights, a dash that hasn't been chopped for a radio, solid original metal bumpers, original complete tool kit, luggage bags that match the interior (one needs a repair), original deck chair seats (not ripped), original carpet (not torn), two keys and more.
I've started the engine and moved the car during my ownership, but it does smoke. Luckily for the new owner, I'm including a replacement engine and gearbox. I rebuilt this engine during my University years and added a brand new cylinder head from alternative autos, new piston rings and a main bearings. It ran beautifully; I even took my red 1300 fitted with this engine around castle combe circuit at the owner's club national in 2009. I'll include a spare gearbox that came with this engine (faultless) if a sensible offer is made.
The car displays 20, 000 on the clock, but the history file indicates 120, 000 miles. The history file is incredible with every single receipt since purchased in 1977. I have the original dealer handover pack including the handbook and receipt of purchase from the dealer, Durhirst Services garage on 1/ 12/ 1977 for £3, 733.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire an X1/ 9 that is rarer than the Lido version. X1/ 9s are immensely fun to drive and a 1300 goes one stage further. The experience is more pure, lighter and the engine revs faster than the 1500 model due to the shorter stroke. Parts availability is better than ever before. Claire at Eurosport is exceptionally helpful and can obtain all servicing parts/ panels etc. Google her website.
Sadly selling purely due to space, restoring my nephew's X1/ 9 and owning 5 other mid engine classics.
First to see will buy. Serious enquiries only.
