The Rover P5 3. 5 litre was for many years the most loved car of British royalty and ministers and the symbol of understated British design and craftsmanship with an eye for detail. Stylish and never intrusive. This Dutch Rover P5b has been ordered new in Arden Green with a large sunroof and black leather with grey carpet. Restored in the Netherlands in 2002 and repainted in the original color and the 2-K paint looks good with a nice shine. It is a compliment for the older restoration. There are valuation reports available from 2002 to 2019 and during the restoration, the original engine was replaced by a more modern V8 from the SD1 and an LPG autogas installation was installed. There are invoices and MOT reports from 2002 with the car and this owner has owned the Rover for 17 years. More than ? 20, 500 has been spent on maintenance and overhaul and the Rover has also been very well maintained in recent years; 4, 200 km ago a new LPG evaporator and valve was fitted, and recently major maintenance was carried out with, among other things, new brakes all around, brake cylinders, calipers and the overhaul of the SU carbs.
The interior looks very nice, the dashboard is completely original and the woodwork remarkably neat. Ales works as it should and even the (German!) Kienzle clock is running. Renovated seats + rear seats from the P6 have been fitted. Beautiful grey mats have recently been fitted and the headliner also looks almost like new.
The iconic V8 alloy runs very smooth on LPG. It sounds beautiful and pulls very strong, even at low revs. The automatic transmission was overhauled 5, 300 km ago by the wellknown Autrans workshop and shifts softly and smoothly. In the past, the differential has also been overhauled. Some technical improvements have been made such as an electric fan, alarm with immobilizer, rear-mounted petrol pump and electronic ignition. The car is rock hard and very dry, with some small cosmetic traces of use such as the chrome. There is a point of attention: the gas tank is polluted and you should replace it if you want to drive on petrol. But why should you; LPG is much cheaper!
