Sunbeam Alpine Series V 1967, Restored with 1725cc Holbay engine, overdrive gearbox. New Minilites and tyres, Mohair hood, All new chrome, New interior
This Alpine started out life as a GT, it has now been converted to a soft top, GTs are great if you live in a country where the weather doesn't change every five minutes.
This Alpine has been restored with many many thousands of pounds worth of new parts fitted and lots of man hours spent on it and as you can see by the photos, it's beautiful.

BODYWORK
New front wings (not patched up ones) , New front valance, New cills .
Rear wings have not had the usually wheel arch repair as they were very good, rear bottom wing corners replaced.
One door had new skin whilst the other was a rust free door. Rust free bonnet.
The whole car was painted inside and out, engine bay and boot in Commodore Blue, which is a lovely colour blue as it contrasts with all the new chrome and finished off with a contrasting dark blue mohair hood.

NEW chrome door handles, boot hinges, boot handle, petrol cap, Alpine scripts, 1725 badges, SUNBEAM badges. And brand new STAINLESS STEEL bumpers, overiders and rubbers. I tried hard to find a set of bumpers that were straight, no holes and suitable for rechroming, without luck so I went for these new stainless steel ones. I was very sceptical about them, but they are fantastic, no one that has seen them at shows know the are not chrome unless I tell them.

Brand new set of genuine 6x14 Minilite wheels fitted brand new 195/ 60/ 14 Khumo tyres. I have the original wheels if wanted.
Couple of very minor bleamishes on paint due to build up and I mean very minor, just being honest.

ENGINE
Engine is a genuine Holbay 1725, not just a rocker cover baring the Holbay name. Engine has been rebuilt using NEW big end and main bearings, thrust washers, timing chain, piston rings, core plugs, gaskets, starter, alternator, water pump, head skimmed, new head gaskets, new set of HD Holbay valve springs, new Pertronix electronic ignition, new coil etc . It has the correct flat top pistons, hollow pushrods, vacuum-less distributor.

The engine did come with Twin Weber 40 DCOEs fitted, but these were rubbish, as anyone who has had these carbs fitted will know, when they are running right, they are great, look and sound good, but when they are old and worn they can be a nightmare. After 4 weeks of trying to set them up, I decided to go with the system that has been raved about on the S. A. O. C. forum. I bought a brand new Weber 32/ 36 and using a modified 1600 inlet manifold and remote air filter. Enlarged and polished the inlet ports of the Holbay head to match the 1600 manifold.
It now runs much better than it did with the 40s fitted, just as much power and more MPG. Low tick over is a little lumpy due to Holbay cam and HC, but it doesn‘t half go well when you wind it up.
Four branch manifold and stainless steel exhaust giving a lovely sports car sound.

INTERIOR
Virtually every thing is new. NEW carpets, rear seat, front seat covers and sponge bases, kick panels, door panels, rear side and back panels, GT door rolls, hood cover, dash top, and a beautiful full width walnut dashboard with glove box lid. And to top it all a Blue Mohair hood which compliments the Commodore blue paintwork a treat.

RUNNING GEAR
Complete new braking system, NEW Lockheed servo, master cylinder, front discs, calipers, pads, bearings, hub seals, rear wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake hoses and copper brake pipes through out.
New clutch master cylinder, clutch pipe, clutch cover, plate and bearing.
New track rod ends, steering bushes etc. Plus loads of other new parts fitted.
Very slight whine on gearbox.

I spent six months looking for an Alpine, I went looking for Alpines advertised for around the £4500 to £5000 mark thinking I was going to get a good one for that money, but I was shocked to see the condition of the cars that were offered, not only being advertised for this sort of money but were actually selling for this sort of money, In my opinion they would need an equal amount of money again spending on them to bring them up to an acceptable level.

Why am I selling? I don’t need to sell, I don’t need the money, so it won’t being going for silly money. Storage dictates that I can only have one car at a time, so I'm selling my Alpine to get a Ford. I’ve always been a Ford man, So when I sell this I will be looking for a classic Ford. I am willing to listen to offers of part ex or swap, but not a car for restoration unless it’s something really special,
I will be looking for a Ford of the 50s 60s 70s, ideally Mk1-2-3 Consul Zephyr Zodiac, Mk1-2-3 Cortina (Lotus, 1500 GT, 1600E, 2000 E-GT- GXL) Capri Mk1 Mk3, Granada Mk1, Corsair etc. try me. I would also consider a modern caravan as I would like one for the classic car shows. Ideally a classic ford and a caravan would be nice.
