Rawles Motorsport are proud to present for sale this original factory-built Austin Healey 100M. One of 640 race homologation cars built for the road, these iconic sports cars feature a heavily tuned engine, a large front anti-roll bar and the iconic louvred bonnet with Le Mans regulation strap. Provenance is confirmed both by the 100M registry (FC Gold Level) and British Motor Heritage Trust certificates – this is a genuine factory 100M BN2 not to be confused with one of the many converted 100/ 4 cars or one of many dubious ‘dealer fit conversions’ without supporting paperwork.
This original engine/ chassis numbers matching 100M is finished in its original colours of Black with Colorado Red duotone, a Red interior with Black seat piping, Red carpet plus Black Everflex hood and tonneau. High levels of originality continue with refurbished original Dunlop wire wheels in correct Aluminium Silver with the exact Dunlop Road Speed RS5 tyres the car would have had new (tyres were new 2017). The engine is painted in the correct Steel Dust Grey/ Green and the original 100M only cold air box is present and correct with its plaque affixed firmly, the engine itself is even believed to have its original 100M camshaft, refurbished at restoration.
This gorgeous Healey is a long-time multiple concours winner and is provided fresh from a very notable collection. Awards include a First in class at Shenandoah Valley in 2018, recognition at Mountain Mile 2016, best in class at St Michaels Concours of Elegance 2015 and ‘Concours Winner Sports Car’ at Brian Redman International Challenge 2003. All trophies remain with the car as do items such as the genuine 100M registry plaque – attached to the dashboard (all 100Ms will only ever receive one of these in their lifetime). The car is extremely correct, down to its concours tool kit.
In 2022 a light paint restoration was carried out by Rawles Motorsport plus a major service, prior to this the car was resprayed in 2012 and then first restored by a well noted 100M specialist in 2000. Mileage is believed to be in just four figures since. Very interestingly, the car is fitted with later front disc brakes – believed to be Austin Healey dealer retro-fit option in the later 50s/ early 60s.
Ownership history of this car is very well traced over many decades with notable owners including John Cahoon, Head of Engineering at General Motors and Phil Coombs – noted Austin Healey race driver – who restored the car. For the last 10 years the car has been part of a large-scale private collection of British classics and kept in a heated and air-conditioned house.
