Quite possibly the best known small British sportscar of all time, the MGB was first introduced in 1964 – in Roadster form – and production continued until 1980, by which time over half a million (of all variants) had been produced. The car still has a large following to this day and a good support network through specialist suppliers and an owners club.
Whilst there were relatively few changes were made to the drivetrain of the 4-cylinder models during their life, the bodywork came in for a substantial visual revision with the 1974 model year, when the original chrome bumpers were replaced with new, steel-reinforced black rubber bumpers front and rear (as with the vehicle here), to meet new US impact regulations. This had some effect on handling and ride height, which were addressed with suspension revisions made in 1977.
This Roadster was first registered in Sheffield in early 1978 and spent its life in the UK until 2007 when acquired by a Jersey-based owner. In a largely original spec, the car received bodywork renovation and a respray prior to import to Jersey and has been well cared for with limited use subsequently.
This car has few changes from standard - electronic ignition and air filters – and is in good fettle. It drives very well on the Minilite alloy wheel fitted.
The Pageant Blue paintwork is in very good condition – largely unmarked and shows well. The underside of the car is in an equally good state, with no visible corrosion or damage.
The interior is in an excellent original condition, benefitting from the addition of smart black leather seats and an aftermarket steering wheel.
This is a good example of a much-loved and sought-after British classic. There is a good supporting history in respect of the car’s past life (MOT certificates, service invoices etc. etc.). It is ready for a new owner, either to be pressed into regular use, for touring or for sunny weekend drives.
