Mercedes SL500 (R129) 5. 0 V8 Auto, in Brilliant Silver with black perforated leather interior and a black hood. A 1996 produced vehicle, which has covered a mere 48, 397miles from new. First registered in Japan, the SL was imported in the UK in 2017 and boasted the usual high standard of Japanese care. The V5 displays 2 owners since arrival in the UK, the first of which was the importer. As is often the case with a lot of Japanese imported vehicles, servicing & maintenance has been completed meticulously. This has been continued by the UK owner and last completed in April 2022.
The R129 is regarded by many as one of Stuttgart’s finest designs and is quickly building classic status behind the already popular R107. This vehicle was considered one of the safest convertibles of its generation, packed full of
modern vehicle features the SL really was the epitome of 90s luxury. Of the various models within the range, the SL 500 is without doubt the pick of the bunch.
The 1996 model incorporated a selection of exciting features which include heated memory seats, climate control, electric roll over bar, wind break, side airbags, electric mirrors and colour coded body mouldings & bumpers. An original Mercedes CD player (UK spec) and HID xenon headlights have also been installed in the vehicle. At time of inspection, all electronic features perform to specification, which is often found not to be the case with an older SL. A Clifford alarm and immobiliser have been installed for added security. The 18-inch AMG five spoke alloy wheels finish the appearance of what is a very original example.
The thumping M119 5. 0 V8 engine, with a 32 valve DOHC, launches the SL500 from 0-60 in just 6. 5secs. The improved and more desirable 5 speed electronic auto transmission, which was fitted from 1994, delivers a rewarding yet luxurious driving experience.
The exterior paintwork of the SL is in excellent condition all around, with no damage or corrosion. The lack of road salt in Japan ensures a sold underside and entirely free of rust. Undersealed whilst in our care to ensure continued protection against the fate of UK roads. The original hardtop is supplied with the vehicle and allows for comfortable use of the SL all year around.
The interior carpets, dash and leather are all in excellent condition and free of damage, cracks and bolster wear. The canvas hood is also in great condition, free of any rips or tears and the windows remain clear with perfect visibility. The electric hood is operated with ease and works fully.
A lot of enthusiasts will tell that that when it comes down to Mercedes Benz, importing a Japanese Mercedes could be the best thing you do if you’re looking to buy a low mileage example that has been well cared for. It was evident that the previous owner of this SL was very sad to see the vehicle go. A rare opportunity to own a low mileage example of an iconic car, which is fast growing in popularity.
