"To build a fast car, a good car, the best in its class."
(W. O. Bentley, Founder Bentley Motors)
Bentley Motors
Born in 1888 as the youngest of nine siblings, Walter Owen Bentley – although he preferred to be named W. O.– founded on July 10, 1919 the company that still bears his name. Now, more than 100 years later, his name is known around the world for creating cars with an unparalleled blend of performance, the finest craftsmanship and materials.
As a result of the Great Crash on Wall Street of 1929, Bentley went bankrupt and in 1931 the proud Bentley firm was taken over by arch-rival Rolls Royce. From that moment on, Bentley became the second brand of Rolls Royce to serve the more sporty customer. With the exception of the Bentley Continental models, no independent Bentleys were designed after the Second World War, each automobile was based on a Rolls Royce with only a few adjustments in details. Technically was the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow a true revolution within the conservative concern. The Silver Shadow saloon models 1 and 2 became the best-selling Rolls Royces ever, with more than 30, 000 sold in 12 years. The more exclusive Bentley T1 and T2 made it to no more than 1, 700 examples in the same time, which means that the Bentley can be seen as rare and exclusive compared to the Rolls Royce.
About this Bentley T1
This impressive original left-hand drive Bentley T1 is in an authentic, excellent original condition. This particular T1 was one of the show cars on the Bentley stand during the prestigious international motor show “Salon de l'Automobile” in Paris - in 1971.
Until 2012, this car had only one owner: 'Marquesa de Vitórica (Luisa Yllera y Camino, Countess de los Moriles)' from Madrid, Spain. The automobile was ordered by her on June 8, 1971 and registered on September 24 of the same year. After the exhibition, the Bentley was brought in perfect condition and delivered to the iconic luxury Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris, where she used to live.
The Bentley is finished in a beautiful colour: Caribbean Blue Metallic, while the interior is fitted with matching 'Mountain Blue' carpet and 'Fawn Ambla' headlining. There comes a very extensive documentation with this car, including the Rolls Royce Crewe "Production Line Specification Check List"; a voluminous file with checked checklists that every exhibition car had to comply with in minute detail.
Many invoices are also present, from the first purchase at the factory to maintenance and repairs over the years. Hereby recent invoices for maintenance, carried out by the official contemporary Dutch importer 'Bentley Leusden'. All this underlines the high level of the periodic maintenance on this Bentley.
In short, a beautiful and rare Bentley T1 that the future owner can be sincerely proud of. Unlike the first owner, the Marquise, who let her driver drive around exclusively, you can take a seat behind the steering wheel of this luxury automobile and enjoy the comfort and driving characteristics endlessly.
