1966 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8
JME is delighted to offer for sale this superb example of a restored Austin Healey 3000 MKIII phase 2. This Austin Healey 3000 MK III chassis no. H-BJ8L/ 35040 was completed by Bell Classics in February 2017. The owner at the time commissioned the vehicle as a full nut and bolt restoration to his personal requirements and specification.
Built on the 15th February 1966, this example of the Austin Healey 3000 MKIII left Abingdon originally Black and was exported to Alabama where it remained until its repatriation in 2010.
During the cars restoration it was painted its current colour scheme of Austin Healey Blue with Blue leather interior. This final and most powerful incarnation of the ‘Big’ Healey has had a full lead-free conversion, and is fitted with an uprated fuel pump, high torque starter motor, alternator, electronic ignition, electronic cooling fan, adjustable steering column, new 72 spoke chrome wire wheels and overdrive.
A structurally superb car. Restored on its original chassis, the car has excellent panel gaps. The car was rebuilt using its original outer body panels. The engine was machined and rebuilt to its original specification. Excellent oil pressure hot or cold, runs smoothly and does not overheat, the gearbox is strong. Running on its original 2” SU carbs. All new correct MKIII tailored leather interior to suit the car along with a correct matching hood and wet weather gear. Sound deadening & heat insulation fitted throughout has made the car an incredibly smooth and refined ride to produce the best road quality car available. This no expense spared 100% restoration has only 2700miles since its completion and is now ready to be enjoyed and toured.
In 2021 the car was fitted with an incredibly rare original works hardtop. The hardtop was fully restored and fitted by Cape International. The hardtop is included in the sale.
Supplied with documents & invoices folder detailing the vehicles restoration. Commissioning a specialist to restore a Healey to this standard and specification would now comfortably exceed £150K GBP.
