SUMMARY

This is one of those rare things thats doesn't come around too often; a totally unabused Mercedes E-Class Estate that hasnt been used as a van. Having had just two previous owners, both professional people, who used the car in the course of their work, most of the 112K miles have been covered on the motorway. In reality 112K is actually very low or an MB Estate, as you'll find most of these cars have now done in excess of 150K. Also, unlike most of these, because of its ownership profile, its been correctly serviced and maintained throughout it's entire life.

Its also among the last of the W211 E-Class too, so all the problems associated with the earlier cars have been adressed, and build quality is much higher too; I see alot of these, and the post 2008 are by far the best made. It also means it doesnt have the troublesome SBC Braking system (just Google it!) but it's just old enough so it doesnt have a potentially troublesome DPF either.

Also just a note here on the M727 V6 & M273 V8 engines found in the petrol variants of the later W211.... just Google "M272/ M273 Balance Shaft Issue" and I think you'll agree they're probably best avoided. Its a very real issue that I've seen quite a few times now. If you catch the problem before it destroys the engine, its a £4000 engine out repair. If you don't, and the engine destroys its self, you may as well just scrap the car as the repair bill will far exceed the value of the car.

That leaves the OM642 V6 Diesel as the only sensible (and best) engine choice for these cars. It's a superb, ultra smooth unit, that returns excellent fuel economony, but at the same time produces more torque than the AMG 5. 5 V8 petrol engine, so this car is certainly no slouch, infact I'd go as far as saying its downright quick; that gut wrencing low down torque makes overtaking both extremely swift and safe. Its also the ultimate motorway cruiser, thanks to its long top gear; at 70mph the rev counter sits at around the 1500 rpm mark, so the engine is effectively only idling, and is as a result extremely quiet. I can't think of many cars that "do distance" as well as these; you could drive it, with all your family to the South of France in comfort, with all their luggage housed in the very capacious boot, and you wouldn't know you'd done it; it just seems to eat miles in such a relaxed, nonchalant manor; something very few cars can match.

If you've looked at many of these, you usualy come away disappointed, as most have led very hard lives, and are invariably wrecked (which takes some doing) and/ or have suffered with some of the mechanical issues mentioned above. I think this car will impress those looking for something a little better, as in my opinion this is the perfect W211 for many reasons, and comes from the "sweet spot" of the W211 production run. I love driving this car; it feels like a sports car, and its easy to forget its size. Along with the S123 & S124, I think the W211 estate is one of the best Mercedes Estate cars made in terms of practicality and durabilty, and have recommended these to many of my customers as an alternative to the now ultra rare, and expensive W124 Estate.

Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that.
