The fantastic «Magnum 5. 9» engine was chosen to give life to the 5. 9 V8, which is nothing less than the V10 engine of the Dodge Viper with two «amputated» cylinders, which together with the reinforced heavy dutty 46RE gearbox coupled to a Quadra-Trac transmission with permanent 4-wheel drive and Dana 44 axles with self-locking gave the 5. 9 V8 impressive performance, namely doing 0-100km in 6. 8 seconds, a barrier only surpassed by the Porsche Cayenne Turbo launched in 2002.
Inside we find authentic armchairs, in the case of the front ones with heating, electric adjustment and memories, «Infinity Gold» sound system with 10 speakers, automatic air conditioning, electric glass sunroof, among other luxuries.
Only 14, 286 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 9 V8 Limited LX were produced and it was elected in 1998 the «Best of the Best 4x4 of the Year» by «Petersen's 4 Wheel & Off-Road» magazine.
