‘MSV 500’ was rebuilt in the 1980’s by renowned marque specialists Denis Welch Motorsport specifically for Andrew Usher, a well-known campaigner of racing Healeys. It incorporates all of the most desirable Welch performance upgrades for a 100/ 6, including a lightweight aluminium body (with steel bonnet) and Stage 3 ‘fast road’ specification engine. Mr Usher, it seems, had to sell the car quite quickly and it was purchased in 1986 by Denis Welch’s brother-in-law and for the next 26 years was continuously upgraded and maintained by Denis Welch.

The car looks absolutely stunning in its Lobelia Blue livery with white number-roundels, the ‘MSV 500’ numberplate and trim in blue leather. The car is also fitted with the rare, yet extremely comfortable, period-correct lightweight seats in 100S ‘Le Mans’ style. It is provided with a full set of weather kit including a new soft-top in blue mohair, a matching mohair tonneau cover, sidescreens with storage bag, and is currently fitted with a period-correct hardtop in white with a works style roof vent.

The engine installed was rebuilt around a 3-litre cylinder block, and includes a blueprinted, lightened and balanced flywheel; gas-flowed cylinder head; forged pistons; SU 2" carburettors; Welch inlet and exhaust manifolds; high-flow aluminium radiator; ITG competition air filters; fully baffled works-type sump; competition clutch; electric fuel pumps; spin-on oil filter; and Kenlowe electric fan with manual override. The engine produces an estimated 175-185bhp at the flywheel which, combined with the lightweight body, gives the car great performance.

Underneath the car is in superb order and sports a side-exit competition exhaust and upgraded front disc brakes and suspension. There are poly bushes all round, up rated roll bars and a sump guard.

Whilst fitted with a Monit rally trip-meter and Willans safety harness the car is fully carpeted and trimmed. The car could easily be made compliant with a wide variety of prestigious historic motor sports events or just be continued to be enjoyed as a fantastic fast road car.
